Farmer Globale, a Ghanaian agribusiness entity, earned international recognition at the Africa Sustainable Futures Awards in the United Kingdom (UK) for its climate-smart rice farming model linking smallholder farmers, carbon finance and sustainable economic growth.
The event was hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) and was held from 21–22 October 2026.
The recognition celebrates Farmer Globale’s innovative approach to transforming Ghana’s rice sector through climate-smart agriculture, inclusive value-chain development and emerging carbon finance opportunities for smallholder farmers.
Farmer Globale made the first shortlist of the top 18 innovations from over 600 projects reviewed across Africa. The company progressed to the top 5 under Agribusiness and received recognition for its innovative methods of rice production.
At the heart of the model is Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD), a water-management technology that reduces water use and methane emissions from rice cultivation. The indigenous Ghanaian company is connecting the climate solution with practical support for farmers, including input financing, mechanisation, extension services, aggregation, processing and market access—helping make sustainable rice production both commercially viable and more rewarding for rural communities.

Farmer Globale works with more than 20,000 farmers, where it has built a model that connects climate action with livelihoods, food security and investment opportunities.
Its efforts also extend to developing carbon credit opportunities that could create an additional income stream for participating farmers, while strengthening the competitiveness of locally processed Ghanaian rice.
The Managing Director of Farmer Globale, Fred Kukubor, said the international recognition affirms a belief that smallholder farmers should not be left behind in the transition to a more sustainable food system. He added that the farmers need to be equipped, connected to markets and positioned to benefit from the economic value their climate-smart practices can create.

“This recognition reinforces our conviction that agriculture can be both commercially viable and a powerful force for climate action and inclusive development. Our ambition is to ensure that farmers are not merely participants in the transition to sustainable agriculture, but among its greatest beneficiaries,” he added.
According to him, the agribusiness company will remain focused on scaling practical agricultural innovations, expanding market opportunities and unlocking investment that delivers measurable benefits for farmers, communities and the environment.
From Ghana’s rice fields to the global sustainability agenda, Farmer Globale is working to make agriculture more productive, climate-smart and inclusive – one farmer, one value chain and one opportunity at a time.
