Farmers in Gomoa Okyereko in the Central Region have accused politicians and other influential people of using land guards to torment them.

According to them, over 150 land guards have invaded parts of the community firing live bullets and chasing farmers with guns, and grading their lands to sell to developers.

The farming community Gomoa with a population of over 2,000 is located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The residents believe some opinion leaders and politicians from Effutu brought these land guards and tried to use force to take their lands without any court ruling.

According to a report by myjoyonline, Speaking some of the residents say several complaints have been made to the Dominase District Police Command, Central East Regional Police Command, and DCE Solomon Darko Quarm but their efforts have proven futile.

The residents have extended their calls to the IGP and the authorities to address the issue adding that they would mobilise themselves and fight if their attempt to control the act prove futile.

Meanwhile, the chief of Gomoa Okyereko, Nana Kofi Donkor disclosed that these land guards have graded over 200 acres of land and all crops on it.

Nana Donkor while expressing displeasure stated that it is painful that despite the national laws in place this government has failed to fight land guard issues adding that some politicians from Winneba are using land guards to terrorize them.
