Ghanaian actor, politician and farmer, John Dumelo, has set tongues wagging after disclosing an area that can make agricultural enthusiasts millionaires if they do it well.

If you’re Ghanaian or Nigerian, the hike in tomato prices has been a big blow to many households, as it’s a major ingredient for staple foods in the two West African countries.

In view of the business potential this problem creates, Mr Dumelo has shared a tip on why farmers should consider growing tomatoes on a large scale to take advantage of the high demand for the commodity.

John Dumelo, who said he will personally start planting tomatoes in September, stated emphatically that anyone who ventures into the business will become an instant millionaire depending on the number of acres cultivated.

    His Facebook post read:

“Tomatoes are expensive in Ghana and Nigeria during this time of year. After July we will have a glut cos most farmers will start harvesting. Anyone who decides to farm tomatoes in large quantities to augment this shortfall will be an instant millionaire. I’m starting this September.”

Meanwhile, his post has inspired his followers, who are commending him for showing Ghanaians the way.

@Jay Reindorf: Wrote: “I think you should be doing this more often, probably every month. It will educate a lot.”

@Addison Jay also wrote: “I love your ideas. You know what’s necessary and the time to do it either in the short run or the long run. You’re a role model.”

@Surveyor Nene Matey I also added his voice and expressed concern that “one major setback of agric in Ghana is the lack of irrigation facilities which is caused by the lack of capital. We want to venture into agric but we don’t have the resources to do it. May our helpers locate us.”

@Ephraim G. Gbadeh also commented that “our problem here in Africa is just storage! All we need is storage facilities…means we can use them to preserve our products in order to have them available to the market at all times.”

@Amo Gyeabour Bizmark said, “Tuobodom people never disappoint, we have started clearing the land to start the tomato plantation. Let’s pray for favourable weather to enhance more quantity of tomatoes and at the same time meet a good market demand…”

In a related development, the actor has also been sharing his success in poultry business after sharing photos on social media with crates of eggs.
John Dumelo, who has rich experience in agribusiness, says agriculture is gold as he keeps motivating the youth to develop interest and invest in the sector.
