COCOBOD Increases Cocoa Farmgate Price To GH¢42,400 Ahead Of 2026/27 Season

The producer price of cocoa for the 2026/2027 cocoa season has increased from GH¢41,392 to GH¢42,400 per tonne, the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced.

The new price represents an increase of GH¢1,008 per tonne over the previous producer price, equivalent to an increase of about 2.4 percent.

The Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD, Dr. Randy Abbey says the announcement of the new producer price is part of measures towards the new cocoa season.

He also revealed a Free-On-Board (FOB) price of US$2,650 per tonne for the 2026/2027 season.

The FOB is when the exporter pays all costs until the cocoa is loaded onto a ship at the port. Under the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, farmers are legally guaranteed a minimum of 70% of the gross FOB price.

COCOBOD says the new producer price represents 71.18 percent of the realised FOB value, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring that cocoa farmers receive a significant share of the value generated from their produce.

The change comes in the midst of cocoa sector reforms aimed at improving the financial sustainability of COCOBOD while protecting the incomes of cocoa farmers.

The current pricing framework follows the enactment of Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026, which provides for an automatic adjustment mechanism linked to international cocoa prices, exchange rates, and other relevant factors, while guaranteeing farmers at least 70 percent of the gross FOB price.

COCOBOD has also been engaging stakeholders on a new financing framework for cocoa purchases as the government seeks to reduce the industry’s dependence on traditional international syndicated loans and increase participation by domestic investors.

The new financing approach includes the proposed Cocoa Notes Programme, through which COCOBOD plans to mobilise funding from Ghana’s domestic capital market to support cocoa purchases and related activities.

The 2026/2027 season is beginning on the back of significant changes in cocoa financing, pricing, and sector management, with the new producer price expected to shape purchasing arrangements and farmer incomes.
