The Ghana EXIM Bank has reiterated its commitment to boosting the country’s poultry industry after providing support for the expansion of Buntaa Farms Ltd with financing for a fully automated layer house with the capacity to accommodate about 54,000 birds.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana EXIM Bank, Sylvester Mensah, who led a team from his outfit to tour Buntaa Farms, inspected the farm’s operations and the newly completed Layer House 2.

The facility is currently in the final stages of commissioning ahead of stocking.

The Chief Executive Officer of Buntaa Farms Ltd, Prof. Kwame Gyan, took the EXIM Bank team through the farm’s operations and the progress made on the new project.

Strategically located between two major cities, Accra and Kumasi, in Akyem Kwabeng in the Eastern Region, Buntaa Farms’ expansion will contribute to increased local egg production and strengthen the domestic poultry value chain.

According to Mensah, the EXIM Bank’s support goes beyond financing physical infrastructure to creating the productive capacity needed to generate economic opportunities.

“…this is about more than funding infrastructure. It is about financing production, and the productive capacity that turns investment into output, income and jobs,” Sylvester Mensah stated in a post on Facebook.

According to him, the project is aligned with the government’s 24-Hour Economy and Feed Ghana Programme, particularly measures to increase domestic production, strengthen food security, create employment and reduce dependence on imports.

The investment also fits into Ghana EXIM Bank’s broader mandate of supporting export-oriented growth and improving the competitiveness of Ghanaian businesses.

Additionally, the CEO said the bank would continue working with businesses that demonstrate the capacity to expand production and create value within the economy.

“Our role is to ensure that Ghanaian businesses with the capacity to produce, expand and create value have access to the financing and partnership they need to scale sustainably.”

Mensah further disclosed that the bank’s readiness to continue supporting Buntaa Farms as the company moves towards full-scale production, with the expansion expected to contribute to the development of Ghana’s poultry value chain.

The investment comes at a time when Ghana continues to find measures to increase domestic food production and reduce reliance on imported agricultural products.

The EXIM Bank CEO said supporting the agricultural sector with the right financial packages has wider economic benefits, particularly through employment creation and improved food security.

“When we finance production, we create jobs. When we finance agriculture, we strengthen food security. When we finance Ghanaian businesses, we build Ghana.”

Buntaa Farms’ newly completed Layer House 2 is therefore expected to serve not only as an expansion of the company’s operations but also as part of efforts to increase the productive capacity of Ghana’s poultry industry.

The company’s slogan, “Healthy Eggs… Healthy You,” reflects its focus on egg production as it prepares to commission the new facility and ramp up operations.
