Genevieve Nutsu Avornyotsey, a young female graduate farmer from Kpando Municipality, has requested the government to support young farmers by providing them with combine harvesters and other necessary equipment to reduce the challenges they face in farming. In addition to this, as the CEO of First Agro Limited, Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey has suggested that the government consider offering a monthly salary to hardworking farmers to help them cope with the current economic challenges in the country.
During an interview with JoyNews, Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey expressed that she has faced difficulties in obtaining assistance for the progress of her farming project, apart from the support of her husband and family. Her farm is one of the largest, consisting of almost all farm produce and animal husbandry.
Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey suggested that it would be beneficial if the government considers granting farmers a salary to motivate them to work harder and provide for the nation. As a graduate, she was motivated to pursue full-time commercial farming by her husband, who has been her primary source of support, encouraging her to abandon the idea of corporate or white-collar jobs and focus on farming.

“My husband motivated me to go into full-time commercial farming because looking at the corporate world now, it is very difficult combining work with family responsibilities,” the young female farmer stated.
Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey acknowledged that farming has been a challenging and demanding experience for her in the past few years, especially since she is a family woman who has had to deal with labour and financial constraints.
In addition to requesting assistance with farming equipment, she also appealed for the installation of a borehole and solar panels on the farm to improve the comfort and safety of the workers, especially in the evenings.
Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey further explained that since farming is seasonal, she needs to engage in other income-generating activities throughout the year. She emphasized the importance of organizations and the government providing support to farmers in any way possible, to help them enjoy their work and improve their livelihoods.
On the other hand, the CEO of First Agro Limited encouraged young women, especially those who are unable to continue their education or recent female graduates, to consider entering the agricultural industry. She believes that it can provide financial support and other benefits for them.
Additionally, Mrs. Nutsu Avornyotsey is actively involved in commercial animal rearing and has a diverse range of fruit and other crops on her farm.
