The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with indigenous Ghanaian agribusiness and fertiliser trading company, ABC Oye Asase Yie Ltd, to establish a fertiliser blending plant in the Eastern Region.
With an annual production capacity of 500,000 metric tonnes, the partnership is intended to cut fertiliser imports and support Ghana’s food security efforts under the Feed Ghana Programme.
While signing the agreement on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Accra, the sector Minister, Eric Opoku, commended the partnership and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to work with the company to make organic fertiliser available in sufficient quantities to support the initiative.
As the investment aims to support import substitution, it also serves as an avenue “for industrial development and job creation, particularly for young people and agriculture graduates.”
Present at the signing event were the Chief Director of MoFA, Mr Paul Siameh, and the Managing Director of ABC Oye Asase Yie Ltd, Mr Mark Nyantakyi.
Meanwhile, ABC Oye Asase Yie in August this year donated 200 bags of organic fertilisers to support the 42nd Farmers’ Day Celebration to be held at Sunyani in the Bono Region in November.
Farmers’ Day is a national recognition program celebrated nationwide to honour hardworking farmers who contribute immensely to Ghana’s food security.
“It is an organic fertiliser; however, it can also be used for conventional production,” an official from ABC Oye Asase Yie explained.
