With just three months into office, one of the Mahama-led government’s touted agricultural projects, ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ will kick-start in the Ketu North Constituency as announced by the Member of Parliament for the area, Eric Edem Agbana.

As a youth-targeted project, the MP who is one of the youngest in the parliament of Ghana is partnering another young poultry expert and animal consultant, Mr. Adu Ababio Enoch, who is leading the team responsible for rolling out the project. He is the founder of Tanta Farms and Training Centre, using social media to encourage the youth about poultry production.

With his rich experience in this field, Mr. Adu Ababio will offer his expertise to make the programme successful towards plans to reduce Ghana’s poultry import bill of over $300 million. The country currently imports 95 percent of its poultry needs.

Making a post on Facebook to announce the poultry farm-to-table initiative, Eric Edem Agbana wrote that Mr. Adu Ababio is “undoubtedly a reliable authority in this field, and his passion for poultry farming is truly infectious.”

Mr. Adu Ababio Enoch is an experienced animal consultant, poultry and veterinary specialist with many years of practice, who is also an advocate for the welfare of animals. He also believes in empowering the youth to venture into the agricultural sector to make decent income towards developing the economy.

According to Hon. Agbana, the founder of Tanta Farms and Training Centre is “inspired by President Mahama’s ‘Nkoko Nkitikiti’ programme, which seeks to support over 55000 households to own their own poultry farms”.

The Nkoko Nketenkete programme, which forms part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto, aims to boost poultry production and create jobs for the youth through enhanced support for poultry farmers, affordable feed production, and expanded veterinary services.

Hon. Agbana further said that, his plan is to recruit two young people from each of the 38 electoral areas in his constituency, train them, and set them up as poultry farmers.

He also indicated that, he, together with the poultry expert, intend to pitch to the Agriculture Ministry to help expand the initiative, “ensuring even more young people benefit from this transformative idea by H.E John Mahama” the post concluded.
