The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced the release of GH¢2.6 billion to Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs) for onward payment to cocoa farmers across the country.
The disbursement will settle outstanding arrears and restore confidence in the sector, a press statement from COCOBOD on Thursday, July 2 2026 said.
Out of the amount released, approximately GH¢1.4 billion has been allocated to clear the remaining balances owed to farmers who sold cocoa on credit. The new development is expected to bring relief to thousands of farmers who have awaited payments for months for produce already delivered.
According to COCOBOD, since the start of the 2025/26 crop season, it has paid over GH¢34.5 billion to LBCs to facilitate prompt payments to farmers.
The Board noted that the latest disbursement forms part of ongoing initiatives to ensure that all cocoa farmers are duly compensated for their produce.
COCOBOD said it is working closely with the Licensed Buying Companies and also implementing monitoring mechanisms for transparency and accountability, making sure the funds reach the intended beneficiaries.
The Board expressed appreciation to the farmers for their patience and resilience during the period of delayed payments. The Board assured the cocoa farmers that no one would be denied payment for cocoa legitimately sold through the approved purchasing system.
Meanwhile, farmers with outstanding payments have been advised to engage their respective Licensed Buying Companies to address any issues, as COCOBOD continues to collaborate with stakeholders to fully settle all obligations.
COCOBOD noted that the latest disbursement is a reflection of government’s commitment to safeguarding farmer welfare and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa sector, while reinforcing measures to strengthen the value chain and ensure long-term sustainability of the industry.
