The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has entered into a partnership with the African Agribusiness Consortium (AAC), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, to establish a 750-acre commercial vegetable production hub aimed at increasing domestic vegetable production, creating jobs and strengthening Ghana’s food security.
The initiative was announced by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, during a ceremony to welcome 118 Ghanaian graduates of the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), whose postgraduate education was sponsored by the Jospong Group through AAC.
The Minister described the graduates’ return as a significant boost to Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda and the implementation of the government’s Feed Ghana Programme.
As part of the partnership, MoFA will provide irrigated land for the vegetable production hub, while the African Agribusiness Consortium will supply the required logistics and finance the cost of irrigation water to support commercial production.
The project is expected to create opportunities for the graduates to apply their knowledge in modern agriculture while contributing to increased local vegetable production.
The 118 graduates comprise 88 specialists in Agronomy and 30 in Ecology. They are expected to play key roles in commercial farming, agricultural research, extension services and sustainable agricultural development.
Government believes the initiative will not only enhance vegetable production but also improve food security, create employment opportunities for young professionals and accelerate the modernisation of Ghana’s agriculture.
The African Agribusiness Consortium, which focuses on transforming agriculture through innovation and sustainable farming, works across key agricultural value chains, including rice, maize, soya and other strategic crops. The company also invests in youth development through scholarships and programmes aimed at producing the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The new partnership aligns with both the government’s efforts to expand commercial agriculture and AAC’s mission to build resilient food systems capable of driving economic growth and improving livelihoods across the country.
