Tomatoes farmers in Tuobodom in the Bono East Region risks losing their investments and are in desperate need of buyers of their produce.
According to a resident, Nana Kwame Amoah, there’s bumper harvest of tomatoes in the area but the farmers are struggling to get buyers.
As a result, he has resorted to advertising for the farmers on social media in order to get buyers from other parts of the country.
Mr. Amoah has been spreading this information for the past week.
“Tomatoes is in abundance at Tuobodom (near Techiman). The prices are so cool.
Help the farmers before their tomatoes go bad,” he wrote on a popular Facebook group, Tell It Alla few days ago.
The resident again posted the information on his personal Facebook page still begging for buyers.
“Support Ghanaian grown tomatoes.
There is bumper harvest of tomatoes at Tuobodom, near Techiman.
Let us support the made in Ghana agenda.
Some farmers are selling theirs at a price of Gh 800 per box or even less.
Help the farmers before their tomatoes go bad,” he wrote.
This piece of information came weeks after tomatoes prices have skyrocketed in major markets across Ghana.
The prices of tomatoes currently were relatively high compared to the prices in the past few years. In major markets in Accra such as Makola, Kaneshie, Ashaiman, and Agbogbloshie, a medium-sized tomato now costs between GHS 1.50 to GHS 2.50, while a small paint container of tomatoes is sold between GHC100 and GHC120.
